Encore un cadeau reçu lors de mon excursion outre-Manche : une étiquette personnalisée à mon nom à partir du modèle *Valentine* de Primitivebettys; pour la photo, je l'ai posée dans le seau à champagne (!) qui me sert à récolter mes bouts de fils. Maintenant, l'étiquette accompagne ma collection naissante de cotons Dinky Dyes que j'ai accrochée à l'anneau.

Another gift received during my trip across the Channel : a floss tag personalized to my name (based on Primitivebettys' *Valentine*  pattern); I put it in my orts jar (an ice bucket !) to take the picture. The tag  now labels my budding collection of Dinky Dye cotton threads which I have put on the ring.

Le mois dernier, j'affichais donc un an de plus. Pour l'occasion, Carol a confectionné à mon attention un petit cadeau unique en son genre : elle a brodé sur du lin blanc un charmant motif rouge dessiné par ses soins (inspiré par les mouettes sur la plage ?), puis en a astucieusement recouvert le couvercle d'une jolie boîte en bois sombre, elle-même doublée de doupion de soie greige agrémenté d'une fine dentelle. Du travail d'art.
Last month, I turned one year older and on the occasion, Carol gave me a present entirely made by herself - there won't be two like this one. She stitched one of her own designs (inspired by the seagulls on the beach ?) with red silk on white linen and fixed it on the top of a pretty dark wood box, lined with cream dupion silk embellished with fine lace. An artist's job.





Dans le sac qui contenait la boîte, il y avait quantité d'autres cadeaux, des ciseaux "petits monstres", de la chenille de soie (jamais essayée), un poinçon, un livre à propos d'abécédaires anciens, du ruban... Je ne dévoile pas tout, j'en garde pour plus tard !
In the bag that contained the box, there were plenty of other gifts, Putford scissors, silk chenille (never tried it before), a laying tool, a book about old samplers,  a piece of ribbon... I am not listing them all now, I am keeping some for later !

 
Entre brodeuses, on papote et on s'échange des tuyaux. Carol m'a parlé de "Brussels linen" - inconnu pour moi -  je lui ai parlé du lin Gander - inconnu pour elle -  et nous avons décidé d'en échanger un petit carré, pour voir.  Dans l'enveloppe arrivée illico presto d'une ville côtière du Kent {où j'ai par coïncidence passé quelques étés dans mon adolescence pour y apprendre la langue de Shakespeare},  il y avait, en plus du lin au tissage un peu raide parfait pour broder en 1*1, une étincelante breloque en cristal Swarowski, habilement fabriquée par l'expéditrice. Merci Carol ! J'ai eu un peu de mal avec les photos, mon objectif n'arrivant pas à faire le point sur la brillance transparente du bijou en question !
Stitchers stitch and chat. Carol mentioned Brussels linen  in a cyber-conversation - I had never heard of it - and I mentioned Gander linen - she had never heard of it. We consequently arranged a swap across the Channel. The package she sent me from a coastal town in Kent {where incidentally  I spent a few summers learning English in my early teenage years} promptly arrived this morning. Not only did it contain the expected piece of beautifully crisp Brussels linen, perfect for 1*1 stitching,  but also a  pretty hand-made Swarowski crystal  charm - thanks Carol ! I had a hard time capturing with the camera the glittering shimmering shine of this pretty scissor ornament.
